Former Manchester United striker Chicharito Hernández has been punished by the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) for sexist comments he made on social media. He said in a video that women are “failing” and “eradicating masculinity.”
Chicharito’s comments were made in a video posted to his TikTok account. The player’s remarks were met with widespread criticism on social media. Claudia Sheinbaum, the president of Mexico, commented on the case.
The Mexican Football Federation’s Gender and Diversity Commission has launched an investigation into the case. According to the BBC, the striker was warned and fined.
Javier Hernández, known as Chicharito, is one of the Mexican national team’s standout players of the 20th century. He played for Manchester United from 2010 to 2014, when he was loaned to Real Madrid.
