Statement was given by Zelensky during an official speech
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced this Saturday (19) that he has sent a proposal to Russia to hold a new round of peace negotiations next week.
The statement was made during an official address to the Ukrainian people, amid the clashes between the parties.
Zelensky emphasized that “the momentum of the negotiations must be strengthened” and “it is necessary to accelerate the pace of talks between the two countries and seek a ceasefire.”
“Everything must be done to achieve a ceasefire. The Russian side must stop hiding from decisions,” the Ukrainian leader declared.
The new proposal to negotiate an end to the war was submitted by Rustem Umerov, former Ukrainian Defense Minister, who led the country’s delegation in the two previous rounds of talks with Moscow in Istanbul over the past five months.
Earlier today, Russia continued its massive strikes against Ukraine, with more than 300 drones, a day after the European Union (EU) announced new sanctions and increased pressure on Vladimir Putin to force him to negotiate.
