American actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, 54, known for his role on “The Cosby Show,” drowned in the Costa Rican sea on Monday (21). “We received a report of an adult male who died of asphyxiation due to submersion at Cocles Beach in Cahuita,” police said in a statement. “The victim apparently entered the sea and was swept away by the current.”
The actor was rescued by bystanders and received treatment from the Red Cross, but was pronounced dead at the scene. Local authorities identified the body and reported that it was taken to the morgue. According to American media, Warner was on vacation in Costa Rica.
Warner was nominated for an Emmy Award for his role on “The Cosby Show.” His best-known roles include his own series, “Malcolm & Eddie,” and his appearance on “Sons of Anarchy.” He also appeared on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” and “Suits.”
“The Cosby Show,” which aired from 1984 to 1992, was one of the biggest television hits of its time, portraying the daily lives of an upper-middle-class Black family in New York City. He appeared in all eight seasons of the show, totaling 197 episodes.
In recent years, he dedicated himself to the podcast “Not All Hood,” having released an episode just three days before his death. He is survived by his wife and daughter.
