Photo of Trump as Superman, says DC Studios co-president, constitutes copyright infringement
DC Studios director and co-president James Gunn has filed a lawsuit against the White House and US President Donald Trump over a photo of Trump dressed as Superman. The report comes from USA Midia. Gunn is seeking $1 billion in the lawsuit.
The image was posted on the White House’s social media channels. Gunn alleges in the lawsuit that there was intellectual property infringement and unauthorized use of the superhero’s image, which is owned by DC and Warner Bros., for political purposes.
The poster, created by the US president’s office, features the words “truth,” “justice,” and “the American way” next to the name “Superman.” Trump is dressed in the superhero costume and looking upward.
The parody quickly went viral and generated controversial reactions. Supporters of the president sought to use it to promote Trump, while critics denounced intellectual property infringement and condemned him for tasteless marketing.
