On Monday (21), a Bangladesh Air Force plane crashed and hit the campus of Milestone School and College in Dhaka, killing at least 19 people, according to official reports. Images and videos shared on social media show terrifying scenes of flames and a thick cloud of smoke rising from the scene of the tragedy.
The plane, an F-7 BGI, was used for military training and crashed shortly after takeoff at 1:06 p.m. (local time), according to the Bangladesh Army’s public relations department. The impact occurred in the Uttara region, in the northern part of the city, where children and adults were present at the time of the disaster.
The latest death toll indicates at least 19 deaths and more than 100 injuries, including children with severe burns who were taken to the Combined Military Hospital and the National Institute of Burns and Plastic Surgery.
In videos circulating on social media, students can be seen running in panic and local residents trying to contain the fire with buckets of water before rescue teams arrived. The fire consumed part of the school and a neighboring building, which was left with twisted railings and a huge hole in the side.
The reason for the crash of the Bangladesh Air Force plane has not yet been officially clarified. Military authorities reported that an investigation has been opened to determine the cause of the accident.
