Uber passengers and drivers in the United States will now be able to connect through rides with the Preference for Females feature.
The initiative aims to offer greater safety and flexibility for both drivers and requesters. Testing of the new feature will begin soon in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Detroit. Female passengers will be able to request rides on demand. When requesting an immediate ride, they will see the “Female Drivers” option. If the wait time is longer than expected, they will be able to choose another ride with a faster pickup.

Users will also be able to schedule rides in advance, using the Reserve option, and guarantee a ride with a female driver. Additionally, it will be possible to set a preference for female drivers in the app. While not guaranteed, this option significantly increases the chances of being picked up by a female driver.
Female drivers will also be able to choose to transport only female passengers, even during peak times, such as at night. This represents more earning opportunities with greater peace of mind. To activate this option, simply access the app settings and select “Female Passenger Preference” — the feature can be deactivated at any time, allowing you to receive calls from all users.
Feature Shaped by Feedback
The Female Passenger Preference feature was first launched in 2019 in Saudi Arabia, shortly after the law that authorized women to drive in the country was passed. Following positive feedback, the feature has since expanded to 40 countries, with over 100 million trips completed.
In Brazil, since 2020, Uber has offered the option for female driver-partners to choose to receive calls only from female passengers through the “Women at the Wheel” initiative. Created in late 2019 in partnership with the Women Entrepreneurs Network, the initiative aims to expand and strengthen the company’s driver-partner community in the country.
