Vanessa Kirby talks about starring opposite Robert Downey Jr. in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’: “He’s an Incredible Lead”

Vanessa Kirby is officially in the Marvel Cinematic Universe—and not just as part of the ‘Fantastic Four.’

After debuting as Sue Storm, the Invisible Woman, in the Marvel First Family film, the British actress is already diving into her next challenge: the epic crossover ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ which promises to be the darkest chapter in the saga yet.

In a recent interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Kirby shared moving behind-the-scenes details—including the impact of acting alongside Robert Downey Jr., who returns to the MCU under mysterious circumstances.

“He’s the most incredible human being—deep, kind, with a beautiful soul,” Kirby said. “He’s been a phenomenal leader for us, especially considering we’re new to this universe. Many of the other actors have been familiar with this world for years, and he’s generously welcomed us. He’s doing an extraordinary job.”

Besides facing cosmic threats and interdimensional challenges, Vanessa Kirby is facing an equally intense journey off-screen: motherhood. The actress revealed that she’s filming ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ while pregnant—something Marvel Studios and directors Anthony and Joe Russo have embraced with enthusiasm and full support.

“It’s the most incredible thing to be filming an Avengers movie while pregnant,” she said. “The Russos, Kevin Feige, and the entire team have been absolutely incredible. I’ve felt welcomed and respected every step of the way.”
