The Social Network 2 | Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White may star in Aaron Sorkin

The sequel to “The Social Network” may soon cast its stars. According to THR, Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White are in negotiations to star in the new film, which will be directed and written by Aaron Sorkin.

While the acclaimed original 2010 drama focused on the creation of Facebook, now known as Meta, the new film’s story will focus on how the company’s own reports highlighted the negative effects its social media was having on teenagers and children, how it knew about the misinformation that was spreading, causing violence, and how it contributed to the attempted coup in the United States on January 6, 2021.

If the duo does join the project, Madison, fresh off an Oscar win for her role in “Anora,” would play Frances Haugen, the data engineer turned whistleblower who took her information to the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Wall Street Journal. White, who is up for his third Emmy for the series “The Bear,” would play the former WSJ technology reporter who spearheads the release of the Facebook files.

Jeremy Strong could also join the cast as Mark Zuckerberg, as Jesse Eisenberg, who played the tycoon in the original film, is not expected to return (via THR). Strong previously worked with Sorkin on “The Trial of the Chicago 7.”

There is no release date yet for “The Social Network 2.”
