‘Superman’ Kiss Scenes Cut From Film in India

The new “Superman” film had two scenes cut in India.

According to Variety, India’s Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) removed two kissing scenes—most notably a 33-second air kiss—for deeming them “overly sensual.”

According to the publication, this isn’t the first similar case this year. The film “F1” had a middle finger emoji replaced with a fist, and “Thunderbolts” was released in India with expletives muted.

The magazine also states that the recurrence of these cases has reignited debate about freedom of expression and the CBFC’s broad powers under legislation related to cinema and film activities, such as the exhibition and production of films.
