A young woman is a victim of sex trafficking in the shocking trailer for ‘Rivers of Fate’ a new Brazilian series on Netflix. The production is directed by Quico Meirelles and Fernando Meirelles (director of ‘City of God’) and was filmed in Belém, Pará.
In the story, Janalice is a teenager kidnapped by a gang operating in the rivers of Pará and dragged into the center of an international sex trafficking ring. As she tries to survive, a bloody search begins, and she will need all the courage she can muster to escape the “pssica” that seems to have been cast upon her life. The series delves into the depths of the Amazon region of Pará, amidst human trafficking, corruption, and the fight for justice.

Written by Edyr Augusto, the original story revolves around three characters trying to survive the “pssica” (curse) they believe has been cast upon them. Janalice, a young woman kidnapped by human trafficking; Preá, who must come to terms with his destiny as the leader of a gang of “water rats” (criminals who operate in the region’s rivers); and Mariangel, seeking revenge for the death of his family.
The project is led by Quico and Meirelles (director of “City of God”).
