Bella Ramsey talks returning to The Last of Us season 3 and Neil Druckmann’s departure

In an interview with Variety, Bella Ramsey reflected on the impact on ‘The Last of Us’ following the departure of co-creator Neil Druckmann.

Ramsey also commented on her future in this adaptation and her possible return in the next season.

“The universe of ‘The Last of Us’ is [Neil Druckmann’s] creation, as is his voice and creative direction. None of that will disappear in season three because he’s no longer actively involved with the series. It will always be his creation. And we always try to honor the games and this universe he created. He will definitely be missed during filming, but his spirit will live on in the narrative.”

Regarding her possible return in season three – which will focus on Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) – the actress remains mysterious: “I kind of know [about my return], but I can’t say. I’m scared.”

With no release date yet, the next season is expected to premiere in 2027.

During the announcement of the nominees for the 77th Emmy Awards, the second season of the series garnered no fewer than sixteen nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Pedro Pascal, Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series for Bella Ramsey, Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for Jeffrey Wright, and Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for Kaitlyn Dever.

The winners will be revealed on September 14th.

The series is based on the game franchise of the same name, which began on the PlayStation 3 and has now received a new version of the first game on the PlayStation 5, with improved graphics and gameplay. The game is developed by the studio Naughty Dog, considered one of Sony’s greatest successes.

Pedro Pascal (‘The Mandarolian’) and Bella Ramsey (‘Game of Thrones’) star as Joel and Ellie, respectively.

The series was created by Craig Mazin (‘Chernobyl’), who also serves as screenwriter and executive producer of the adaptation alongside Druckmann.
