Boca Juniors is eliminated from yet another competition. After early exits in the Cup Libertadores, the Apertura Tournament, and the Club World Cup, the team bids farewell to the Cup Argentina in the round of 16, losing 2-1 to Atlético Tucumán.
Almost a month after being eliminated from the Club World Cup in the group stage after drawing with semi-amateur Auckland City, Boca Juniors suffered another humiliation in 2025.
Winless since May, the team was eliminated from the Copa Argentina in the round of 16. After a string of missed goals, Boca Juniors saw Atlético Tucumán open the scoring. In the 20th minute of the second half, Clever Ferreira scored the first goal from a corner kick.
Ten minutes later, Boca Juniors were all out in attack, seeking an equalizer, but were met with a quick counterattack from Tucumán. Mateo Bajamich took advantage of the open defense and fired in Marchesín’s rebound.
Cavani pulled one back in the 52nd minute, but it wasn’t enough to save Boca Juniors. The Copa Argentina elimination adds to the mix of relegations from the Copa Libertadores qualifying round, the Apertura quarterfinals, and the Copa Club group stage.
