A new ruling by Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Alexandre de Moraes expanded restrictions on former President Jair Bolsonaro, including, along with the ban on social media use, “broadcasting, retransmissions, or posting of audio, video, or transcripts of interviews on any third-party social media platforms.” The decision was released this Monday (21) by Metrópoles.
“The precautionary measure prohibiting the use of social media, directly or through third parties, imposed on Jair Messias Bolsonaro obviously includes the broadcasting, retransmissions, or posting of audio, video, or transcripts of interviews on any third-party social media platforms. The person under investigation may not use these means to circumvent the measure, under penalty of immediate revocation and arrest,” Moraes said.
The measure is in addition to the use of electronic ankle bracelets, a curfew, a ban on speaking to other suspects, including his son Eduardo Bolsonaro, and a ban on approaching ambassadors and embassies. These restrictions were imposed following direct lobbying by Eduardo Bolsonaro, as noted by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), against the Supreme Federal Court (STF) and other Brazilian institutions in the United States.
According to the PGR, the federal deputy acted to mobilize foreign pressure against Brazilian institutions, including the 50% tariff increase announced by US President Donald Trump on Brazilian products, effective August 1. On Friday (18), the Federal Police executed search and seizure warrants at addresses linked to the former president.
