Passengers on a Delta Airlines flight to Atlanta experienced a major scare last Friday (18). Moments after taking off from Los Angeles Airport (LAX), the aircraft had to make an emergency landing after a suspected engine fire.
The plane is a Boeing 767, and the flames were captured on video footage taken on the ground. The emergency landing was safe, and no one was injured. The United States Department of Aviation has opened an investigation into the incident, according to Delta Air Lines. The cause of the fire is still unclear.
American media reported that, as soon as engine number 1, located on the left side of the plane, malfunctioned, the pilot initiated standard procedures for this type of failure, declared an emergency, and requested an unscheduled landing.
